Strengthening Crisis Response in Poland: Sahana Eden Featured in New Systemic Recommendations Report

Lessons from the Crisis: Systemic Recommendations" published by Mapuj Pomoc

At the Sahana Software Foundation, our primary mission is to save lives. To achieve this, we provide information management solutions to help organizations prepare for disasters. Today, we proudly announce a major success. Specifically, a new landmark report in Poland recognizes our open-source platform, Sahana Eden, as a key technological solution. The report is titled “Lessons from the Crisis: Systemic Recommendations” (“Lekcje z kryzysu: rekomendacje systemowe”).

A Collaborative Effort for Systemic Change

Between 2022 and 2025, crisis response in Poland faced huge challenges. For instance, these ranged from the refugee crisis to severe flooding. Consequently, these events highlighted a critical need. Aid groups must move from simple spreadsheets to professional integrated systems.

We are honored to have contributed to the working group led by the Mapuj Pomoc network. As a result, the produced document guides government administration and NGOs. Ultimately, its goal is to build a safer and more resilient system for the future.

Sahana Eden: Verified in Action

Notably, the report explicitly recommends Sahana Eden for resource management. It mentions that our partner, Stowarzyszenie TRATWA, is currently testing our system. Therefore, they use it to manage organizations, resources, projects, and requests effectively.

Furthermore, the report highlights a key feature of Sahana Eden: it works offline. This capability is vital in crisis zones where internet connectivity is often unstable. Because of this, aid distribution and volunteer coordination can continue without interruption.

Standardization and Interoperability

In addition, the recommendations in the report align perfectly with our support for open standards, such as Open Referral. Specifically, the document calls for two main changes:

  • Systemic mapping: Authorities should monitor warehouse resources at municipal and regional levels.

  • Data exchange: NGOs and government bodies need a cohesive system to exchange information.

By utilizing Sahana Eden, organizations can structure their data efficiently. Consequently, this makes the data ready for standard-based exchange. This approach reduces information chaos and prevents the duplication of efforts.

In conclusion, we invite our global community, developers, and humanitarian partners to explore these findings. They prove that open-source technology fits perfectly into national crisis management architectures.

Social resilience enters a higher legislative level in Poland

Things are gaining momentum! Building social resilience and crisis management is no longer just theory—it is turning into concrete action at the highest level here in Poland.

The jointly developed “Handbook” has just reached the Senate of the Republic of Poland ️.

During the “Council on Social Resilience 2026” (Narada o odporności społecznej), we spent two days discussing how to combine the forces of NGOs, local governments, and business to act effectively during a crisis. It represents a crucial moment where grassroots initiatives and expert knowledge meet policymakers to create a safer tomorrow.

    In practice, this means:
✅ Better coordination of aid efforts.
✅ Systemic solutions instead of improvisation.
✅ Increased safety for all of us.

It is encouraging to see how these local actions align with systemic recommendations. You can read more about the Council’s outcomes and next steps here: https://mapujpomoc.pl/narada-o-odpornosci-spolecznej-2026-dwa-dni-rozmow-o-tym-jak-dzialac-razem-w-kryzysie/
