Communication and Disaster Management Research Internships Open for Applications

After a really successful internship program over the last year we’re excited to be continuing it. Estève Giraud and Marine Louvigny have done an excellent job as Communication Interns writing numerous blog posts and helping us with some of our user guides, but are now moving on to full time work and studies.

The Sahana Software Foundation is now looking for another two Communication Interns as well as a Disaster Management Intern. These are virtual internships and are open to applicants from any country. Interns will work with a number of different mentors from the Sahana community and be expected to work an average of 4 hours each week throughout the internship.

Communication Internship
This internship will suit someone with skills in communications, documentation, marketing or social media and is interested in gaining more experience. You’ll be supporting the Sahana Software Foundation by by developing and implementing a communications strategy, writing blog posts, creating promotional material, improving our online content and documentation and helping to run our community meetings. This internship will run for 1 year and the interns will receive US$ 1500 each.

Disaster Management Research Intern
This internship will suit someone who is studying Disaster or Emergency Management. You’ll be working with us to conduct research around Sahana to help us continue to develop the software to meet the changing needs of experts in the field. You’ll be working with a number of experts in the Sahana community who have years of experience working with disaster management organizations and delivering technology solutions as well as have access to data on the use of Sahana. We’re looking for someone who will bring in fresh ideas and perspectives and determine the focus of the research in. We’ll be flexible around designing this internship so that it could count towards course credit and would hope that you may be able to publish a paper coming out of it. The internship would ideally run for 4 months with a average commitment of 4 hours a week and the interns will receive US$ 500.

If you are interested in either of these internships please fill out this application. Applications for both internships will end 31st August 2013.

Further internships with the Sahana Software Foundation for software developers and designers which will be announced in September 2013.

  2. Hello,

I am interested to apply for the “Disaster Management Research Intern” (or maybe wait and apply for the software developers and designers internship in September).

I’d like to know if being a student is a mandatory pre-requisite for applying/being selected for all these internships?

  4. Ankit – There is no mandatory requirement of being a student, however we do want to make sure that you have enough time to fulfil the obligations of the internship.

Sohel – We are looking for a disaster management research intern to begin this year – perhaps this is something you could begin during your studies? If you are not available this year, then I suggest you wait until next year.

  5. I wish I had known about this earlier – is there another opening in the spring? My undergraduate degree is in public relations, and I am currently getting my Master’s in disaster medicine and management.
